Peponi Hotel is a small, private, family-owned hotel which was once a house. It is the only Lamu Hotel situated directly on Shela Beach where guests can relax and enjoy the hospitality that has become the hall mark of Peponi.

Peponi has a total 24 rooms which are categorized into superior and standard rooms: The main difference is that superior rooms have a different location, size and private outside area with swing bed.

Peponi Hotel has a variety of facilities like:-

The sea-facing bar and snack restaurant which is open to hotel guests and visitors.

Private verandah’s and dining for hotel guests only.

The hotel restaurant is renowned for it excellent fresh seafood and cuisine.

The hotel has beautiful gardens which have been an integral part of the hotel and Shela village for over 40 years.

Swing hammocks under the shade of coconut trees and a fresh water free form swimming pool under two Baobab trees offer the perfect places to relax.

There is a very well-stocked gift shop with gift items from all over Kenya.

The hotel dhow departs daily to Lamu town for those visitors wishing to visit the historic town, its museum and shops for a couple of hours before returning to Shela by lunch time.

Peponi is also home to Lamu Marine Conservation Trust (Lamcot) that was started by Peponi Hotel in 1992.The project began with the translocation of a turtle nest to the hotel grounds for protection.

The project has since grown to an established trust and managed by Carol Korschen of Peponi Hotel.
