Detailed Itinerary

NAIROBI DAY TRIP

The trip involves a visit to Nairobi National Park, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Karen Blixen Museum.

 Nairobi National park.

Nairobi National Park is the oldest of all Kenya’s National parks. It is known for its Black Rhino Sanctuary and, despite bordering the city, it is home to variety of wildlife such as lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffe, baboon, zebra, wildebeest and cheetah and hyenas as well as many other animals. The park’s closeness to the city makes it easy for people who wish make a visit and experience a safari without having to travel and stay overnight elsewhere.

 The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage

The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage is located near Nairobi National Park. This orphanage for Elephant Calves and Rhinos from all over Kenya was founded and still managed by Daphne Sheldrick, the widow of one of Kenya’s best known Game Wardens David Sheldrick.

David Sheldrick was at the centre of the 1970’s Ivory poaching wars in Tsavo National Park.

Today, the Sheldrick orphanage is a focal point for Elephant Conservation.

Elephant calves orphaned by poaching are brought here from all over the country. They receive extremely specialized treatment here, and literally receive personal care 24 hours a day from highly dedicated staff who become surrogate mothers to the calves.

Karen Blixen Museum

Karen Blixen Museum was once the centre piece of a farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills owned by Danish Author Karen and her Swedish Husband, Baron Bror von Blixen Fincke. Located 10km from the city centre, the Museum belongs to a different time period in the history of Kenya. The farm house gained international fame with the release of the movie ‘Out of Africa’ an Oscar winning film based on Karen’s an autobiography by the same title.
