Joy’s Camp is oasis in the arid lands of Samburu, built on the site of Joy Adamson’s tented home in Shaba National Reserve, 314 km from Nairobi.

The camp overlooks a large natural spring where elephant and lion stops to drink water with herds of buffalo and the Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe and endagered species Grevy’s Zebra.

The camp has 10 canvas bedrooms, set on raised platforms with overview of the surrounding hills.

Each tent is uniquely decorated with Boran/Somali cloth design, handmade glass and the vibrant fabrics of the local nomadic tribes creating a stylish, sophisticated and tasteful camp.

Each tent has its own private deck, ideal for private game viewing as well as relaxing, reading and soaking up the truly wild environs offered by Shaba.

Reservations that are canceled, reduced in length of stay or reduced in numbers are subject to cancellation and no show charges.


Check in time at hotels is 1100hrs.
Early check in will be charged at extra night.
Late arrivals should be advised in advance to avoid auto cancellation of the reservation.
In case check in is delayed than the expected arrival date, the delay will be treated as no show.

Check out time is at 1000hrs.
Day room use can be arranged at extra fee and is applicable from 1000hrs to 1800hrs.
